Abstract
This project reimagines my Unit 01 analysis of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica to engage a new audience: first-year students at City Tech. Originally written as an academic exploration of the painting’s historical context and emotional power, this revised version uses a multimodal format, specifically an infographic to introduce freshmen to the powerful intersection of art, politics, and protest. Many students may not yet realize how visual art can respond to real-world events and influence public opinion. By unpacking the symbolism and impact of Guernica, this project helps students understand how creative expression can serve as a form of resistance, storytelling, and historical documentation. The goal is to make this famous artwork accessible and relevant to students who are just beginning to explore the connections between culture, history, and their own roles as critical thinkers and creators.
